BORONGAN CITY, Oct. 9 (PIA)-Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan C. Agda donated some P728 thousand for the skills training of TESDA E. Samar.
Agda was present at the opening of the first-ever Provincial Training Center at the Borongan City Transport Terminal on October 8, 2019.
Agda reportedly loaned the vacant spaces at the city terminal as training center for Food Processing NC ll and Electrical Installation Maintenance (EIM) NC ll with 25 trainees each.
The mayor said that he is happy that TESDA is offering skills training so that everyone in Borongan will be productive.
He added that if the Training Center becomes successful, he will ask TESDA to include other skills like heavy equipment operator, welding and other skills which are in demand in the United States and Europe.
TESDA Provincial Director Antonio Waniwan said that Agda was very enthusiastic when offered with the project.
Provincial Training Center Administrator Dr. Renato Picana in his opening remarks urged the trainees to do their best.
"This training center has a clear purpose-to transform the lives of the poor and unserved citizens of Borongan," he said.
For his part, TESDA Regional Director Dante Navarro congratulated the mayor for his support to TESDA.
He also appreciated the location of the training center.
"Maganda dito dahil malapit sa terminal, makikita kayo dadami enrollees ninyo ," Navarro said.
As the programs was live on various media outlets, Navarro urged all local government units to be like Agda, to invest in their people.
"We are engaging all the LGUs, put up your own local TESDA training center, especially in agriculture, the backbone of the economy," he said.
He said that he dreams that at least all households will have one TESDA certificate holder.
To the TESDA trainees, he asked them to organize themselves into one association so that when one succeeds, they will all aspire to be successful too. (nbq/PIA 8-E Samar)
