Singapore's ruling party secures majority in general electionSingapore's ruling People's Action Party (PAP) has secured a simple majority in Saturday's general election, as Returning Officer Han Kok Juan announces results constituency by constituency early Sunday.A total of 209 candidates from 11 political parties and coalitions, along with two independents, contested 97 elected seats in the parliament.This election marks the first time Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has led the PAP into a general election, after succeeding Lee Hsien Loong in May 2024, following Lee's two-decade tenure.Albanese's Labor Party wins landslide victory in Australian electionPrime Minister Anthony Albanese's center-left Labor Party has won a second term in power in Australia's federal election.Labor on Saturday night retained power in a landslide election victory that is set to deliver the party its most seats in the lower house of the federal parliament, where the government is formed, in history, according to projections from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).It makes Albanese the first leader of either major party to win consecutive elections since 2004.Japanese PM expresses "strong disappointment" over U.S. auto parts tariffJapanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Saturday expressed his strong disappointment that a new 25 percent U.S. tariff on auto parts took effect earlier in the day.Ishiba told reporters that Japan will continue to ask U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to reconsider its tariff measures.Ishiba also said Japan is negotiating with the United States on "all" U.S. tariffs, following reports that the U.S. side is unwilling to offer exemptions on duties imposed on products such as auto and steel.Paramilitary attacks kill at least 300 in SW Sudan in 2 daysAt least 300 people were killed in attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the city of Al-Nuhood in West Kordofan State, southwestern Sudan, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.A ministry statement said the attacks occurred over the past two days and accused the RSF of committing "crimes against humanity," with the killings "carried out on an ethnic basis."The ministry also reiterated its call for the United Nations Security Council and other international actors to end what it called "leniency" toward the RSF's actions.Houthis claim responsibility for fresh missile attack towards IsraelYemen's Houthi group on Saturday claimed responsibility for a missile attack towards central Israel, which triggered air raid sirens across Jerusalem earlier in the day.According to a statement broadcast on the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said the group launched a "hypersonic ballistic missile" aimed at a "military target" in southern Tel Aviv. He asserted that the missile "hit the target," though no further details were provided.The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that it intercepted a missile fired from Yemen early Saturday morning.
