Third-seeded Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe notched a 6-4, 6-4 victory over top-seeded Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova on Friday to win the U.S. Open doubles title in New York.
It marks the second time in three years that Dabrowski of Canada and Routliffe (born in Canada, playing out of New Zealand) won the title.
Dabrowski, 33, was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2024 and missed part of last season. She's now back in top form.
'Erin, what a wild ride,' Dabrowski said to her 30-year-old teammate in an on-court interview. 'It's been absolutely crazy. We've been through so much together, and I feel extremely grateful to be standing here as a champion alongside you today. It means the world. Thank you for sticking by me, thank you for the support -- and yeah, we rock on.'
Dabrowski and Routliffe had 26 winners and nine unforced errors.
'We've had a long partnership so far, and I'm so grateful to you,' Routliffe said to Dabrowski. 'We won our first Slam here two years ago, and to win it again two years later is so exciting. I'm very, very happy I get to play with you.'
Townsend and Siniakova had 22 winners and 13 unforced errors.
Siniakova of Czech Republic is a 10-time major doubles champion, including winning this year's Australian Open with Townsend, their second title together.
Townsend also reached the fourth round in singles before failing to convert eight match points in the second set of an eventual three-set loss to Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic. She also was involved in a heated postmatch argument with Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko after winning in the second round. Ostapenko later apologized for some of her comments.
