Zelensky, Trump discuss bolstering Ukraine's air defense in phone call
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday that he discussed the possibility of bolstering his country's air defense in a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump.
"I informed President Trump about Russia's attacks on our energy system, and I appreciate his willingness to support us," Zelensky said on X.
According to him, the two leaders talked about opportunities to bolster Ukraine's air defense, as well as concrete agreements to achieve that goal.
Zelensky said that there are "good options and solid ideas" on how to strengthen Ukraine.
Top DPRK leader attends massive military parade to celebrate key party anniversary
Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), attended a massive military parade here on Friday marking the 80th founding anniversary of the WPK, state media said Saturday.
The military parade featured foot formations representing various services and arms of the DPRK military forces and military hardware columns showcasing the country's most advanced weaponry, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported. The new Hwasongpho-20 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) also made an appearance at the parade.
4 dead, 12 injured in U.S. Mississippi shooting
At least four people were killed and 12 others injured in a shooting early Saturday morning in Leland, Mississippi, according to media reports.
Leland Mayor John Lee told CBS News that the shooting happened around midnight, and four of the injured people were airlifted to local hospitals. There was no immediate information about their condition.
The mayor said the shooting happened on a main street of the town, where people came for Leland High School's homecoming game against Charleston High School.
Lula calls for solving disagreements with U.S. through dialogue
Disagreements between Brazil and the United States should be resolved through dialogue and mutual respect, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Friday, noting that Brazil "can't depend on one country or on one president's mood."
"People only respect you if you respect yourself. Anyone who thinks that bootlicking helps is wrong," Lula said here at an event.
In late July, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing an additional 40 percent tariff on Brazilian goods, raising the total tariff to 50 percent on most Brazilian products.
Sudanese gov't reports 57 civilian deaths in RSF drone strike on El Fasher
The Sudanese government on Saturday reported that a drone strike by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed 57 civilians at a temporary shelter in the western Sudanese city of El Fasher.
"As part of its ongoing plan aimed at the mass extermination of displaced persons and civilians in El Fasher, the terrorist militia committed another massacre today, at the Dar Al-Arqam shelter in El Fasher," Sudan's foreign ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, the fatalities included 17 children, 22 women, and 18 elderly people.
