GAZA - A family of eleven, including 7 children, and three women have been killed in an attack by the Israeli army, just inside the demarkation line agreed to in the Trump-brokered ceasefire.
The army said they fired on a "suspicious vehicle."
The attack took place on Friday night in the Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City, according to Gaza's civil defence. It appears, the IDF did not attempt to ascertain who was in the car, as they would have seen it was crowded with children.
The Abu Shaaban family were in the vicinity trying to find their home which has been destroyed in the more than two-year-long bombardnent of the enclave, a home they will no longer require..
Reports locally say it appears the family got lost as most of the area is now unrecognizable, the area is not clearly marked, and the IDF has not put up warning signs,
"They could have been warned or dealt with differently," civil defence spokesperson Mahmoud Basal said in a statement Saturday, adding that "what happened confirms that the occupation is still thirsty for blood, and insists on committing crimes against innocent civilians."
In a separate statement the agency said it had worked with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to recover the bodies of nine of the family so far. The bodies of 2 children remain missing, feared their bodies were blown to bits and have been scattered far and wide,
Hamas which described the attack as a "massacre," called on U.S. President Donald Trump and mediators to pressure Israel to respect the ceasefire.
