Victoria Mboko breezed past fellow Canadian Bianca Andreescu 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open on Tuesday in Tokyo.
The 19-year-old needed just 75 minutes to record the win, which was her first since she defeated Naomi Osaka in the final of the WTA 1000-level Montreal Open in August. She had lost in the first round in four tournaments since but never trailed in this match, landing nearly 70% of her first serves and winning 77% of those points.
In other action, Eva Lys of Germany defeated Great Britain's Katie Boulter 6-2, 6-1. Sonobe Wakana of Japan topped Czech Nikola Bartunkova 6-4, 6-3 in a battle of teenaged wild cards. American Sofia Kenin ousted Moyuka Uchijima of Japan 6-1, 6-3.
