U.S. records longest gov't shutdown in history as it enters Day 36
At 00:01 a.m. (0501 GMT) on Wednesday, the U.S. federal government shutdown entered its 36th day, surpassing the previous 35-day record set during the 2018-2019 shutdown, making it the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
At midday on Tuesday, the U.S. Senate made its 14th attempt to advance a short-term funding bill proposed by Republicans and already passed by the House, but the procedural vote fell short of the 60 votes required for approval.
As has been the case throughout the more than month-long government shutdown, leaders of both the Republican and Democratic parties continued to trade blame on Tuesday, with no signs of negotiation or compromise.
China to extend tariff suspension on imported U.S. products
China will continue to suspend the 24-percent additional tariff on imports from the United States for one year while retaining the 10-percent rate, according to an announcement released Wednesday by the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council.
China will make the adjustment from 1:01 p.m. on Nov. 10, 2025, the commission said.
The move aims to implement the outcomes and consensus reached in the China-U.S. economic and trade talks, the commission said.
Israel vows to keep targeting Hamas, destroy tunnels inside Gaza
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Wednesday that the military will continue to strike Hamas and destroy tunnels within the "Yellow Line," a demarcation marking areas where Israeli forces remain deployed in Gaza, "without any limitations."
"Israel's policy in Gaza is clear: the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) is operating to destroy the tunnels and eliminate Hamas terrorists without any limitations within the yellow area under our control," Katz wrote on social media platform X.
He added that Israel's main objective, along with recovering the bodies of seven deceased hostages still held in the enclave, is "to disarm Hamas and demilitarize Gaza."
Israel says 20 militants killed in Lebanon over past month
The Israeli military said on Wednesday it had killed about 20 people in Lebanon over the past month, describing them all as militants, including a member of Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force killed earlier in the day.
The latest strike came amid increased cross-border Israeli attacks in Lebanon and escalating rhetoric from the country despite an ongoing fragile ceasefire, raising concerns that Israel may be preparing to resume large-scale air operations in its northern neighbor.
The army said the 20 people killed were targeted as part of operations "to remove threats against the State of Israel."
